Different types of kitchen tiles
There is a number of tile types available so if you’re redecorating your kitchen and want to tile work tops, walls or flooring, you will need to choose the best type of tile to suit your needs. Ceramic and porcelain tiles can be a good choice if you’re on a budget. Porcelain tiles are extremely hard and therefore are very durable, however you can choose from many tile types, patterns and designs. A more luxurious option is natural stone tiles that you can find in various sizes including 40x60cm, 40x40cm and 60x60cm, or you could choose mosaics on mesh backing which either look good covering walls or can break up larger tiles as a border. Another option to consider is modular tile sets that can look effective on either floors or walls and you can choose between various coloured slate and travertine products. For a rustic kitchen or a feature wall look, handmade tiles can look fantastic with relief patterns and individual surface finishes, whereas if you want a tile that looks good as a splash back, you could try metallic tiles.
Using tiles to decorate your home
A hard wearing flooring option is tiles, which are suited to being laid on either floors or walls, and there is also the option of tiling worktops, splash backs and fireplaces to create beautiful interior environments. Hallways in Victorian homes are often covered with tiles, which can easily be mopped or swept and rugs can be used to cover them if you wish. Kitchens and bathrooms are commonly tiled as are utility room walls and floors, which is down to them being hygienic and waterproof. Therefore many families with kids and/or pets often opt for tiling on their floors. Tiles are also frequently used for flooring in conservatories because they are cool under foot in warm weather and underfloor heating can be installed to heat them in winter.
